11 containerised flower cherry trees have been planted in King George V Playing Field

11 containerised flower cherry trees have been planted in King George V Playing Field along the path that runs from the entrance at Lowbourne through to the car park in Bath Road creating what will once established an avenue of trees offering dappled shade in the summer months, along with Spring blossom and Autumn interest. Each tree has been fitted with a ‘Treegator’ tree water bag which holds up to 57 litres of water which seeps through the bottom of the bag and empties in 5-9 hours giving 100% absorption with no run off.
Containerised trees can be planted at any time of the year unlike bare rooted trees, which can only be planted between the months of late October through to February, in either case watering through the first and possibly second summer season is required to aid establishment. Melksham Town Council Announces Appointment of Acting Chief Executive Officer and Transitional Arrangements

Hayley Bell Appointed as Melksham Town Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer

Melksham Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Hayley Bell as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Town Clerk, and Proper Officer, effective Tuesday, 3rd June 2025. Hayley will formally transition into the permanent role of Chief Executive Officer and Town Clerk after a 6 month probationary period.

Hayley Bell brings a wealth of experience, operational knowledge, and a strong track record of service to the Council and the community. Her leadership, professionalism, and dedication make her ideally placed to guide the Council through this next phase.

In support of this transition, the Council is also pleased to confirm that Tracy Predeth will continue in her current role as Locum Town Clerk Officer until the end of August 2025, ensuring valuable continuity and support during this period of change.

The Mayor of Melksham, Cllr Saffi Rabey issued the following statement:

“I am very pleased to confirm the promotion of Hayley Bell to the role of Acting CEO, Town Clerk, and Proper Officer. Hayley has demonstrated commitment, leadership, and integrity throughout her time with the Council, and I have every confidence in her ability to lead with distinction in this new capacity.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Tracy Predeth, who will remain with us as Locum Officer until the end of August. Her continued presence will be invaluable in ensuring a smooth and stable transition.

Melksham Town Council is proud to announce the appointment of Lance Corporal William Watters of the Melksham Detachment as the Mayoral Cadet for the 2025–2026 civic year.

William has been selected for this prestigious role in recognition of his outstanding service to the local community, his initiative in raising funds for charity through the creation of his own cookbook, and the glowing commendation he received from his commanding officer.

The role of Mayoral Cadet offers a young person the opportunity to accompany the Mayor at key civic events throughout the year and serve as a representative of youth involvement in public life. William’s commitment, leadership, and civic-minded spirit exemplify the values Melksham Town Council seeks to promote through this role.

Melksham Town Mayor, Councillor Saffi Rabey, has announced her chosen charities for the municipal year 2025/2026: Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance and Fear Free.

Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance provides a vital helicopter emergency medical service across Wiltshire and surrounding areas, while Fear Free supports individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, and other forms of interpersonal harm.
Melksham Town Council will be supporting the Mayor’s charities through fundraising activities and events throughout the year.

VE Day Commemorations

Melksham Community unities for VE Day Commemorations.

The Melksham community united in commemoration of VE Day, beginning the day with a proclamation read aloud by our former Town Crier Mr Peter Dauntsey, accompanied by the town Mayor Councillor Tom Price and retired Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire Mr David Couzens. The commemorations moved to the war memorial in Canon Square where a moving tribute was led by Rev. Charlie Thomson on behalf of the residents of Blenheim House care home and the Royal British Legion Melksham Branch. A Sherman Tank and a number of desert jeeps from the Second World War were present in the Market Place during the morning.
The young in our community were treated to an afternoon at the circus and a picnic at King George V Playing Field emulating the commemorations in 1995 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of VE Day.
The Assembly Hall hosted a VE Day lunch and tea dance feature the Terry Hill Big Band. Before attentions turned to the evening commemorations with performances from the Saxaphony Saxaphone Quartet and the Wiltshire Police Band, A speech from the town Mayor Councillor Tom Price, the lighting of the lamp of peace and VE Day beacon.
