Melksham Town Hall is now officially open to collect unused laptops, partnering with Wiltshire Digital Drive to help bridge the digital inclusion gap.
In January, Melksham Town Council announced its partnership with Wiltshire Digital Drive following a unanimous Councilor decision to support the community interest programme. Wiltshire Digital Drive is a community‑focused group working to reduce the digital divide in Wiltshire by refurbishing and redistributing devices to individuals and families without access to essential technology. Devices that can’t be reused are recycled. Wiltshire Digital Drive’s recycling partners operate with a zero-landfill policy and ensure precious metals are stripped out and returned to the manufacturing stream, for a reduced environmental impact.
Melksham’s Mayor, Councillor Saffi Rabey, said:
“Digital inclusion plays a vital role in ensuring equal opportunities in education, employment, and staying socially connected. This partnership strengthens the network across our local area to tackle digital poverty and provide enough laptops for people facing isolation or barriers to learning, work, or training.”
Following a successful operational review, Melksham Town Council is pleased to confirm that the Town Hall is now an official drop‑off point. Residents can support the initiative by dropping off unused laptops at Melksham Town Hall. All devices are securely wiped during the refurbishment process before being redistributed, ensuring complete donor peace of mind.
Devices we can accept: laptops, MacBooks, tablets, microphones, and keyboards.
Devices we cannot accept: PC towers with power supplies, screens or monitors, printers or photocopiers, unsorted miscellaneous cables, or other electronic equipment.
If you would like to make a difference by donating a device, visit www.wiltshiredigitaldrive.org or drop in to Melksham Town Hall (Monday to Friday, 9am–4pm).
