There are currently six core areas of responsibility, each managed by a dedicated committee or working group:

1. Full Council

The Full Council is made up of all elected Town Councillors and is the main decision-making body. It meets to review the work of the committees, approve strategic decisions, and consider town-wide matters. Full Council meetings are open to the public and provide a platform for community participation.

2. Finance

The Finance Committee oversees the Council’s budget, financial planning, and expenditure. It ensures public funds are managed responsibly and transparently, and reviews grant applications, audit reports, and the council’s financial policies.

3. Personnel

This committee is responsible for staffing matters, including recruitment, training, performance, and welfare. It ensures that the Council’s team of Officers and staff are supported and well-equipped to deliver high-quality services to the community.

4. Facilities and Amenities

This committee manages the upkeep and development of town assets, including parks, open spaces, buildings, public toilets, and community facilities. It plays a vital role in maintaining the quality of life in Melksham.

5. Community Development

The Community Development Committee focuses on initiatives that strengthen local engagement, support voluntary groups, promote inclusivity, and enhance Melksham’s social and cultural wellbeing. It oversees projects, events, and partnerships with community organisations.

6. Economic Development

Although Melksham Town Council does not have the power to approve planning applications, the Planning Committee reviews and comments on applications submitted to Wiltshire Council, representing the local community’s views on future development.
