** Help Melksham Go for Gold in South West in Bloom! **

Melksham is busily cultivating its entry for this year’s South West in Bloom Competition ahead of the judges’ visit on Monday 8th July 2024.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Britain in Bloom, and Melksham are determined to go for gold in the South West area competition. Although the judges only visit for one day, the town’s efforts over the whole year will be taken into consideration.

The Melksham Bloomers and the Town Council Amenities Team now have a busy time ahead of them preparing the Town Centre for the judging season.

This will include cleaning, fixing and re-arranging street furniture such as planters and troughs as well as pruning, tidying and planting all around Melksham Town. They will also be decorating the Market Place with the Melksham Flags Team’s colourful creations as well as taking part in their regular Town Tidy Days.

The Bloomers are now calling on all Melksham residents and businesses to play their part in keeping the town looking clean, tidy and beautiful to give us the best chance of impressing the judges!

How Can You Help?

- Join the Melksham Bloomers at their monthly Town Tidy days. Their ‘Big Bloom Clean’ is on Sunday 7th July, 1pm-3pm, starting at Melksham Town Hall.

- Dispose of litter appropriately.

- Report any maintenance or safety issues around town to Wiltshire Council online via the ‘MyWilts’ website, or to Melksham Town Council by emailing towncouncil@melksham-tc.gov.uk.

- Residents- Cut back any overhanging trees and bushes on your property.

- Business Owners- Sweep up shop fronts and report fly tipping or fly posting via ‘MyWilts’.

The Royal Horticultural Society says, “South West in Bloom is one of eighteen regional/national competitions that make up Britain in Bloom, the biggest horticultural campaign in Europe. The aim of the communities that take part each year is to improve and regenerate our local environments, through the imaginative planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and landscaping, conservation, and recycling projects, and to sweep away the eyesores that blight our streets, such as litter, graffiti, and vandalism.”

If you would like to join the Melksham Bloomers in their efforts to get Melksham ready for the South West in Bloom judging, please visit them on Facebook or email communitydevelopment@melksham-tc.gov.uk and we will put you in touch!
