Melksham town centre gets

a greener, more welcoming look

New planters, fully funded by the Wiltshire Town Programme, to enhance Melksham’s town centre and support local biodiversity.

Melksham Town Council has installed new wooden planters in the town centre as part of ongoing efforts to green public spaces and make the area more welcoming for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The planters, located in the Market Place, were fully funded by the Wiltshire Town Programme (£21,104.80 for design, construction, and installation). They will feature native trees, equipped with water bags, and will be maintained by the Town Council’s amenities team to support local biodiversity and enhance the town’s visual appeal.

This tree planting also aligns with the Council’s newly adopted Memorial Tree Policy, which allows residents to commemorate loved ones while contributing to a greener, more sustainable environment.

Councillor Saffi Rabey, Mayor of Melksham, said:

“These planters are a positive step in our commitment to making Melksham greener and more inviting. We are proud to link this project with larger environmental efforts across the town, including our new tree planting programme and memorial tree policy.”
