Christmas Lights Switch-On and Christmas Market
Date: Saturday 6 December 2025
Location: Market Place and Assembly Hall
Time: 2pm (lights switch-on 6pm)
Join us for a festive afternoon and evening in Melksham! Explore the Christmas Market with seasonal stalls, enjoy live music, visit Santa’s Grotto, hop on funfair rides, and celebrate the magical lights switch-on at 6pm, complete with fireworks. Fun for all the family!

Santa’s Grotto
Date: Saturday 6 December 2025
Location: That Meeting Place, Market Place
Time: 2:15pm – 5:15pm
Tickets: £3 per child* available from https://tinyurl.com/ymbwvhsd
*All children must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults go free.

Elf Trail
Dates: 6 – 23 December 2025
Santa’s elves were helping set up the Christmas Grotto in That Meeting Place – but they’ve escaped and are causing mischief around Melksham! They’re hiding in shops and businesses, and Santa needs your help to find them before Christmas Eve.
How to join the fun:
- Download your entry sheet & map HERE or pick one up from:
Melksham Town Hall, Cobbler’s Bench, Gompels, The Toy Shop, King’s Arms, or Doubles. -
Search for the hidden elves and write down their names.

Post your completed sheet through the Town Hall door or upload it using the online form below.
Every entry goes into a prize draw with fantastic local prizes.
The Elf Trail runs from Saturday 6th December alongside the Christmas Market and Lights Switch-On from 2pm, and continues until 23rd December. The prize draw will be held on Christmas Eve morning.

Carols by the Tree
Date: 11 December 2025
Location: Market Place
Time: 5:30pm – 7:30pm
We are delighted to invite you to be part of Carols by the Tree, a cherished seasonal event held in the heart of the town in Melksham’s Market Place. Set against the backdrop of the town’s beautifully illuminated Christmas tree, this festive gathering brings the community together for an evening of traditional carols, joyful songs, and festive spirit.
Guests will enjoy the warm, inviting atmosphere while sipping on mulled wine or hot chocolate and singing along to timeless Christmas favourites. It is an occasion that captures the essence of the season – connection, celebration, and goodwill.
You can join us in making this event truly unforgettable for families, friends, and residents across Melksham. Together, we can share the festive cheer and create lasting memories.

Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition
Melksham Town Council is inviting children and schools to take part in a festive design challenge!
Create a Christmas card design for the Mayor of Melksham – the winning artwork will become the official Mayor’s Christmas Card for 2025!
How to enter:
Submit your design using our online form below or drop it at Town Hall (Mon–Fri, 9 am–4 pm)
Deadline: 21 November 2025
The winning design will be chosen by the Mayor and shared with the community to spread some festive cheer!

Operation Christmas Child
Collection week: 10 – 17 November
Location: Town Hall
Time: during office hours 9am – 4pm
Melksham Town Council is proud to support Operation Christmas Child, a global initiative by Samaritan’s Purse that delivers gift-filled shoeboxes to children in need around the world.
Melksham Town Hall is an official drop-off point during the Collection Week 10 – 17 November
Pack a shoebox with small toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and a personal note to help spread joy this Christmas.

Melksham Christmas Elf Trail Competition Submission
To enter the Melksham Christmas Elf Trail Competition, find and record as many elf names on your entry sheet as you can, then upload an photo of your submission using the form below. Winners will be contacted on Christmas Eve and will receive prizes which have been generously donated by local businesses.
Volunteering
We’re looking for friendly volunteers to help with 🎅 grotto assistance, 🎁 stewarding, ☕ hospitality, 📸 photography at the Christmas Lights Switch-On and Christmas Market on 6 December 2025.
