Melksham’s floral displays coming into bloom

Melksham’s floral displays are coming into bloom as summer approaches

Melksham is getting ready for a summer of community wellbeing, connection and events as Melksham Town Council’s horticulturist schedules the installation of town centre hanging baskets, the return of the pop‑up garden and new floral displays.

On Monday, 20 April 2026, Melksham Town Council shared an update on this year’s floral displays. In Market Place, the reinstallation of the town centre popup garden is complete. The temporary garden includes a seating area surrounded by planting to create a welcoming and comfortable space for people to sit, socialise and spend more time in the town centre. The popup garden will also support upcoming town centre events, such as Friday Live, which starts in May, through relaxed seating and a performance space.

The report further addressed the town centre trees, which were planted last year as part of Melksham Town Council’s strategy to increase biodiversity. These native trees are now coming into leaf and will be monitored as part of routine inspections and maintenance. As they mature, they will continue to enhance Melksham’s green spaces, while improving the town’s visual appeal.

The continued support of local businesses was highlighted in extending colourful displays throughout Melksham’s High Street. Nineteen businesses are taking part in the 2026 hanging basket scheme, helping to spread even more life and vibrancy across the town.

Participating businesses include Lock & Key, Melksham Insurance Brokers, Eagle IT Support, New Resource Recruitment, The Hiding Place, Total Carpets & Flooring, Nixon & Shaw Opticians, Bliss Hair, Melksham Conservative Club, Goughs Solicitors, Tile & Bathroom Centre, The Market Tavern, Melksham Tourist Information Centre, ID Newmans, Colosseum Dental, Glow, Belle of the Ball Bridals, Evie’s Kitchen and Melksham Kitchen & Appliance Centre.

Hanging baskets are scheduled for installation on 1 June, with regular watering three times per week to ensure they remain bright and healthy throughout the summer months.

Alongside the town centre floral displays being delivered by Melksham Town Council’s horticulturalist, Wiltshire Council has granted permission for the black, town centre planters to be relocated. This was arranged to improve alignment with the street scene and increase the available space for pedestrians.

Councillor, Adrienne Westbrook, commented:

“Many years ago, our Town Clerk at the time wanted Melksham to become known as a Flower Town. It started quite small with some ‘non watering baskets’ As the years have rolled on more and more of our Town is covered with Flowers during the Summer Months. It’s always exciting to see how the roundabout develops and what is going to be the theme this year.  The hanging baskets look amazing and our sustainable planting in the larger planters is now far more environmentally friendly. A huge thanks to all businesses who are supporting this. You will see our Town Team out and about watering everything.; please stop and talk to them.”
