Melksham Parking Redemption Scheme

Since 2011, Melksham Town Council has supported a Parking Redemption Scheme which works in partnership with local businesses to offer up to two hours of free parking for visitors to the High Street.

The scheme was renewed in 2026 to help reduce the cost of parking and improve access to Melksham, making it easier for residents and visitors to shop locally.

How to park for free in Melksham?

  1. Park in Church Street Car Park and purchase a ticket using the MiPermit app or a pay and display machine.
  2. Visit a participating business and present proof of your active parking ticket.
  3. The business will refund the cost of up to two hours of parking directly to you.
  4. The business then reclaims the cost from Melksham Town Council, ensuring the scheme is free for visitors and businesses taking part.

Only Church Street Car Park is eligible for the Parking Redemption Scheme.

Do I need to make a purchase to reclaim my parking?
No. Visitors are not required to make a purchase to reclaim their parking fee.

What if I want to stay longer than two hours?
Church Street Car Park is open 24 hours with a maximum stay of three hours.
While the scheme covers up to two hours, you may purchase a longer stay and reclaim the cost of two hours only.

What proof do I need to show?
You must provide valid evidence of your parking ticket. Accepted forms include:

  • A photo of your physical ticket
  • Confirmation via the MiPermit app

Please ensure your physical ticket is clearly displayed in your vehicle to avoid a fine from Wiltshire Council. Participating businesses will accept a photo if you use the pay and display machines.

What are the benefits of Melksham’s Parking Redemption Scheme?
By offering two hours of free parking, the scheme aims to maintain and encourage footfall to local businesses and ensure that Melksham remains accessible and affordable for all. The scheme reduces the financial barrier of parking, making short trips into Melksham more appealing and encouraging spontaneous visits.

When will the scheme end?
The scheme is funded annually by Melksham Town Council. It has been approved for the 2026/27 financial year and will be reviewed each year as part of the Council’s budget setting process.
