Town Centre Focus Day

Residents encouraged to help identify areas for improvement ahead of Town Centre Focus Day

Melksham Town Centre received dedicated day of maintenance on Wednesday 22 April 2026, aimed at improving the towns cleanliness and attractiveness in preparation for summer. Feedback from residents is continued to be welcomed to highlight areas of concern and help guide work carried out.

On Monday 20 April 2026, Melksham Town Council resolved to dedicate a day to refreshing the appearance of Melksham’s town centre. The Town Centre Focus Day supports the Council’s priorities to enhance the town’s appearance and ensure spaces are kept clean, safe and well cared for.

By targeting maintenance to key areas, the Town Centre Focus Day aimed to improve the feel of the high street for residents ready for the summer season and attract visitors through a welcoming environment.

This targeted work also supports Melksham Bloomers entry into South West in Bloom, a regional competition that awards communities that take pride in brightening their streets.

On Town Centre Focus Day, Melksham Town Council’s Amenities’ Team carried out a range of maintenance tasks, including weed control, litter picking, and repainting of the cycle storage areas.

To ensure maintenance is focused on areas that need it most, residents were encouraged to report priority spaces in the town centre. Feedback helped Melksham Town Council target areas used by residents most often, ensuring a positive impact on the community.

Local businesses were also invited to take part by tidying the outside of their premises and freshening up shop fronts, helping to create a cleaner, brighter town centre for everyone.

Councillor, Adrienne Westbrook, said:

“Melksham Town Council is rightly proud of our Town centre. It is vitally important that we keep the Town Centre clean and tidy. We all have a responsibility to do this, residents using bins for litter, businesses keeping their frontage clean and tidy, Pubs clearing cigarette butts from outside their premises. I’m pleased to see a dedicated Town Day for this and hope it becomes a regular event.”
